Welcome everyone!! My name is Cheryl and I have been a public safety dispatcher for over 22 years. During my career, I have experienced situations that the everyday person could not imagine. For a large part of my career, I lived to work… mainly to pay the bills. Due to this, I worked all hours of the day, weekends, and holidays. I missed family and friends’ social events and spontaneous adventures as they came up. Over the last two decades, my physical and mental health suffered after years of a lack of sleep and a constant state of stress. Even with eating the right food and being active as my schedule allowed, I physically started to fall apart.
For the last year, I have been working with medical professionals and a therapist to change this. After trying a variety of medical interventions, nothing worked for me. At the end of January 2023, I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. It was a life altering decision.
I am using this time to changes some aspects of how I live my life. This is my journey to relearning how to live and love life outside the communications center. I hope that you will follow along while I do that.
